Utter, Grant C.

Age 94, of Alpine, NY and formerly of Fayette, NY passed away on May 10th, 2009 at home, peacefully, with family at his side.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Grace, of 70 years; his children, Ronald Utter, Marian (Dallas) Gable, Lila (Roy) Administer, and Debra Albro; 15 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren and 18 great-great-grandchildren. Mr. Utter was predeceased by his daughter, Anna Walker.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service at his home, 5750 Cayutaville Road, Alpine, NY on Friday, May 15th, 2009 at 2PM; a celebration of life will follow.

Wood, Edward A. “Tim”

Age 83, of County Route 14, Alpine, NY passed away on May 7, 2009 at Schuyler Hospital, Montour Falls, NY.

Mr. Wood is survived by his wife, Mabel I. Wood; children Suzanne & Don Learn of Odessa, NY, Sandy & Stephen VanVoorhies of Westford, Mass., Tom & Patricia Wood of Odessa, NY, and Jennifer & Jim Winkler of Montour Falls, NY; 17 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren; sisters Charlotte McCarty of Cicero, NY and Ann Wood of Alpine, NY; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Wood was predeceased by his brother, Fred Wood, and sisters Alma Fudala and Esther Hayes.

DeBolt, Cecelia M.

Age 76, of North Perry St., Watkins Glen, NY passed away in the comfort of her home on Sunday, May 3, 2009.

Mrs. DeBolt is survived by her children, Leonard & Mary DeBolt of Watkins Glen, NY, Louis & Pamela DeBolt of Rock Stream, NY, and Renee & Jim Brown of Sherwood, AK; grandchildren Nicole, Michael, Shawn, Sarah, Robert, Ryan, Aidan, Kyra, Hannah and Logan; a sister, Betty (Sal) Rianna of Mastic Beach, L.I.; a brother, Patrick (Arlene) McDonald of Satellite Beach, FL; along with several nieces, nephews and many friends.

Mrs. DeBolt was predeceased by her husband, Leonard L. DeBolt, and her brother, Jack McDonald.

Mrs. DeBolt was a communicant of St. Mary’s of The Lake Church, Watkins Glen, NY and a member of the Ladies of the Moose, Montour Falls, NY.

Lattin, Clyde G.

Age 89, of Jefferson Village, Watkins Glen, NY, passed away on Tuesday, April 28, 2009 at Schuyler Hospital, Montour Falls, NY.

Mr. Lattin is survived by his wife of 35 years, Esther Lattin, and his children, Barbara Chapman, Dana Lattin, Mary Alice Rounds, Cheryl Liparulo and Kevin Lattin, and her children, Linda Jones, Gary Sherman, Steven Sherman, and Eric Sherman, along with six grandchildren, 10 step-grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Clyde was predeceased by his first wife, Clara Hoffman M. Lattin, in 1968 and his daughter, Nancy, in 1952.

Mr. Lattin was a great volunteer for many organizations, a couple being the Schuyler County Volunteer Ambulance, of which he was very instrumental in its formative period, and the Highland Cemetery. He served as President of the cemetery Association and was also the Sexton for many years.

Clyde was in the Civil Air Patrol during WWII, was a bus driver for many years at Odessa-Montour Central School, and ran the family-owned business in Catharine, the General Store; better known as “The Catharine Corner Store.”

Family and friends are invited to attend a graveside service for Clyde at the Highland Cemetery on Friday, May 1st, 2009 at 2:00 PM, the Rev. Leonard Miller officiating.

Murray, Allan F.

Of Townsend Road, Watkins Glen, NY passed away on Monday, April 20, 2009 at Schuyler Hospital, Montour Falls, NY.

Allan is survived by his fiancée, best friend, and caregiver; Jacqueline Eskew and her family, Tom & Kathy Eskew, Jackie Manning (Dave Watson), Jim & Roberta Eskew, and David & Coralee Eskew; grandchildren Scott Manning (Pam Brewer), Lisa & Chad McDonald, Liz Manning (Phil Willsey), Kacie Eskew (Jason DiMetro), Sara Eskew (Josh Ilnicki) and Mike Eskew; great-grandchildren Tachia & Cody Dolley, Anthony Carbonero, Allyssa Manning and Bella Willsey; a sister; Beverly Lehman; a nephew, Michael Lehman; and a host of boating friends.

Mr. Murray was a longtime Sales Representative for GE, and an Air Force veteran. He was an avid Boston Red Sox baseball fan who played Triple “A” ball and pitched. Allan was also known for being seen on the waters of Seneca Lake, leaving Geneva in his boat with his fiancée and his friends, whom will all miss him.

Rounds, Keith C.

Age 77, of Montour Falls, NY went to be with his Loving Wife, Marion Rounds, on Wednesday, April 8, 2009.

He is survived by his children, Keith & Vicki Rounds of Horseheads, NY, Kevin & Tonya Rounds of Odessa, NY, Cheryl Rounds & Rick Rough of Newfield, NY and Cindi Doane of Cayuta, NY. He loved and cherished his nine grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. His sisters, Ruth Hanville of NC and Janice Wright of Avon, NY, along with several nieces, nephews and cousins, also survive him.

Mr. Rounds was a veteran, having served with the U.S. Marine Corps.

In honoring his wishes, private services will be held at the convenience of the family. Interment will be in Highland Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the Vedder and Scott Funeral Home, Odessa, NY.

Taylor, Joyce E.

Age 62, of Rock Stream, NY, formerly of Corning, NY, passed away on March 25, 2009 at Schuyler Hospital with her loving family at her side.

She was born on July 29, 1946 in Mexico, NY to the late Benjamin and Rose Anna (Davis) Burke. Mrs. Taylor was predeceased by her husband, Howard A. Taylor, on February 17, 2009. She is survived by her children, James (Kristy) Taylor of Odessa, NY, William (Wendy) Taylor of Rock Stream, NY and Steven (Beth) Taylor of Pine Valley, NY; seven grandchildren, Michael, Katherine, Rebecca, Matthew, Breeana, Amanda and Abigail; along with her dear friends, Carolyn & Eddie Jordal, Florence (Pat) Hagadorn and Warren Osborne.

Joyce will be remembered most as a loving wife, mother, nana and friend.

The family will receive relatives and friends at the Vedder and Scott Funeral Home, 122 N. Genesee Street, Montour Falls, NY, on Friday, April 3, 2009 between the hours of 4 PM and 6 PM. A memorial service for Joyce will be held following calling hours at 6 PM.

Interment will take place in South. Bradford Cemetery for both Howard and Joyce at the convenience of the family.

Reimels, Susanne Skriver

Of Watkins Glen, NY passed away at home on March 14, 2009, after a short illness, with her daughters, Amanda and Christina, by her side.

Susanne worked for Schuyler County Head Start for over 25 years and was also very active on The Arc of Schuyler Board along with her past year’s involvement with the Odessa-Montour Central School Special Education Committee.

Surviving Susanne are her daughters; Amanda (William) Hollister and Christina Reimels, along with her brother, Christian Skriver, and sister, Catrine Skriver Goska, and several nieces and nephews.

As per Ms. Reimels' wishes, there were no prior calling hours or funeral.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Southern Tier Hospice & Palliative Care, 11751 E. Corning Road, Corning, NY 14831 in loving memory of Susanne.

Age 66, of Beaver Dams, NY, passed away at Schuyler Hospital, Montour Falls, NY surrounded by her loving family.

Mrs. Mosher is survived by her husband, Robert L. Mosher; mother, Bertha Gay of Painted Post, NY; children Karen and Robert Ketchum of Odessa, NY, Mary F. Harrison of Watkins Glen, NY and Thomas Mosher (Teresa Burdick) of Beaver Dams, NY; grandchildren Sarah and Bryan Peck, Alan and Amber Ketchum, Joshua Harrison, Cory Harrison, Makeyla Burdick, Heather Decamp Mosher and Jessica Mosher; great grandchildren Luke Peck and Drake Ketchum; sisters Mary Ann Van Amburg and Shirley Edwards; brothers Chester and Charles Gay, and several nieces, nephews and extended family and friends. Mrs. Mosher was predeceased by her father, Franklin Gay, and sister, Lillian Cole.

Mrs. Mosher was a member of the Odessa Wesleyan Church, Odessa, NY and enjoyed going to rummage sales.

Age 97, of Montour Falls, NY passed away on Wednesday, March 11, 2009 at the Seneca View Nursing Facility, Montour Falls, NY.

Mrs. Weber was born in Austria and was predeceased by her husband, Joseph Weber, and a son, Joseph Edward Weber. Her daughter, Rosemarie Dillon of Montour Falls, NY, and daughter in law, Margaret Weber of Long Island, NY, survive her. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Gary Jerabeck, Craig Jerabeck, Jeannette Dillon, Edward Weber, Stephen Weber and Nancy Weber, and 8 great grandchildren.

Allen, Geraldine L. (The Candy Lady)

Age 68, of South Street, Montour Falls, NY went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, March 10, 2009 at Arnot Ogden Medical Center.

Gerry is survived by her husband, Arthur H. Allen; children Beth Ann Allen and Kenny Allen of Montour Falls, NY; a grandson, Andrew Bullis of Charlotte, NC; a sister, Alice Dore of Merrick, L.I., NY; and nieces Cheryl (Edward) Bovaird, Judy (Eric) Coyle and Jane (Tom) Iorio.

Mrs. Allen was a member of the Odessa Wesleyan Church and formerly worked for the Schuyler County Head Start program.

Age 94, of Clinton Street, Montour Falls, NY, passed away on Sunday, March 8, 2009 at Schuyler Hospital surrounded by her loving family.

Mrs. Rinker was born in Watkins Glen, NY on March 5, 1915, the daughter of the late William & Mary Meade Knapp. Her husband Frank Rinker and daughter Mary Rinker also predeceased her.

Mrs. Rinker is survived by her children, Wilma Crout of Montour Falls, NY, Frank & Carol Rinker of Corning, NY, Larry & Julie Rinker of Montour Falls, NY and Duane Rinker of Montour Falls, NY; special grandchildren Dennis and Noel along with 8 other grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren, and 10 great great grandchildren.

Alma enjoyed crocheting and baking for her family.

Bush, Gabriel E.

Age 58, of Catherine St., Montour Falls, NY, passed away on Sunday, March 8, 2009 at Schuyler Hospital.

Mr. Bush is survived by his wife, Anna V. Bush; his father, Elmer Newberry of Montour Falls, NY; daughter Tina James (Ryan) of Montour Falls, NY; grandchildren Shane James, Dylan James, Pepsi James and Paris Kalakewick; foster daughter Brandi Simmons, along with many dear friends and extended family. His sons, Shane and Kenneth, and his mother, Genevieve Newberry, predeceased him.

Mr. Bush was a former member of the Montour Falls Fire Department and worked for the former Pollio Dairy in Watkins Glen, NY. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Vera is survived by her husband of 62 years, William A. Lisk; children David & Elizabeth Lisk of Watkins Glen, NY, Diana Castrenze of Harford, NY, Deborah Lisk-Boutoille & Andre of Mount Holly, NJ, Darleen & Milford Sanders of Palmer, TX, Denise & Jake Clark of Alpine, NY and Dana & Tammy Lisk of Newfield, NY; 12 grandchildren, and 19 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Melvin Dickinson of Macedon, NY and several nieces and nephews.

Our Staff

Every person on our caring staff is committed to maintaining personal attention to every detail of each unique family situation in order to provide a personalized tribute to your loved one. Jackie Wickham joined the staff as Office Manager in early 1996 and is an invaluable help with support information and assistance for all families that pass through our doors. She and her husband John were both raised in Schuyler County and have raised a family of three children here as well. She has an extensive firsthand knowledge of the communities and families we serve.

Kevin Sullivan, LFD joined the staff as a part-time Associate in May of 2004. He brings nine years of experience to the business. Kevin and his wife Lorrie grew up in the Horseheads area, and they understand our dedication to community. They have recently opened Sullivan’s Funeral Home on the corner of Franklin and State Rt. 13 in Horseheads, NY. We’re very happy to have Kevin join our dedicated staff, and are confident in his ability to serve your needs.

Fred Scott, LFD, after returning from Vietnam and getting his Associates Degree at Corning Community College and his Mortuary Science Degree at Simmon’s Mortuary School, joined his father in business in 1977.

Fred and his wife Bonnie (shown together at right) have lived for 25 years in this community, where they raised their daughter and have been active in community endeavors such as church, school, civic organizations, charity fundraisers, community government and local development committees. Fred also donates his time to manage the Montour Cemetery for the Village as a Cemetery Commissioner, and serves on the St. Mary’s Holy Cross Cemetery Board. Fred is personally committed to continuing the tradition of compassionate service delivered promptly and with the highest degree of professionalism as was established by his father.

Our History

Earl M. Vedder established the Vedder Funeral Home in 1926, and Wendell V. Scott established the Scott Funeral Home in 1948, both in Montour Falls, NY. Mr. Vedder also owned a local furniture store on Main Street. A local businessman and friend to both men, John E. Hodge, encouraged them to join their businesses to make a stronger commitment to the community. So in 1949 Vedder and Scott, Inc., was established as a Funeral Home on North Genesee Street and as a Furniture Store on the Main Street of Montour Falls, in the heart of the Finger Lakes Region. The Heal Funeral Home, on Church Street in Odessa, was purchased by the Company in 1981 and provided a second location to our unique communities.

Earl and Blanche Vedder resided in the North Genesee Street Funeral Home apartment. Blanche was a school teacher at the Montour Elementary School, and was the Village Clerk for a time. They owned a small farm on Rt. 414 where Earl enjoyed horseback riding and raising horses. They retired to Mesa, AZ in the early 1960s.

Wendell and Dorothy Scott lived on Owego Street in Montour Falls in the former Hibbard Funeral Home, where they raised five children, until moving into the North Genesee Street apartment when the Vedders retired. Dorothy worked as an accountant for the Montour National Bank and in the furniture store in following years. Wendell was the Town Clerk in Montour Falls for approximately 20 years, and was well known as a resident at Chef’s Diner for breakfast!

The Montour Falls location was built in 1844. Before becoming the Funeral Home, some of the upstairs rooms were rented for local nurses who worked at the Shepherd’s Hospital out behind the Funeral Home on Schuyler Street. The building still has the original Dutch Oven and Fireplace and is included as part of the section known as the “Glorious T” of historic buildings in Montour Falls.

Recent Death Notices

Hanson, Carl E. “Swede”

Age 86, passed away peacefully at Schuyler Hospital on February 18, 2009.

He was born December 4, 1922 in High Bridge, New Jersey, the son of the late Carl O. and Hulda Hanson, He was predeceased by his son Dale. Swede is survived by his best friend & loving wife of 62 years, Virginia Hanson; son Gary and his wife Debbi Hanson; granddaughter Bethany Hanson Harbourt and husband Matthew Harbourt; granddaughter Laura Hanson; several nieces & nephews, and a host of friends.

Swede served in the Navy for 4 years, a “Plank Owner” of the U.S.S. Intrepid in WW II. He volunteered with the High Bridge Fire Department & Rescue Squad for over 25 years. After his retirement from Thomas J. Lipton Inc., Swede and Virginia moved to Montour Falls, where he spent many happy hours working in his woodshop.

Friends are invited to a memorial service at 2:00 PM on Sunday, February 22, 2009 at the Vedder and Scott Funeral, 122 N. Genesee St., Montour Falls, NY.

Harris, Verle (Viola)

Age 82, of Speedway, Odessa, NY went to be with her Lord on Friday, February 20, 2009 at Schuyler Hospital surrounded by her loving family.

She is survived by her loving husband, Robert Harris, and her children that she cherished and placed first in her heart and her life. Her surviving children are: Jeffrey Harris of Cayuta, NY, Beth (Mike) Rounds of Montour Falls, NY, Jeannie (Fred) Rundle of Duluth, GA., Sandy Stillman of Montour Falls, NY, Fred (Sharon) Fitch of Watkins Glen, NY, Bonnie Hayes of Elmira, NY, Lynette (Ron) Ratliff of Churchill, TN., and Terry Robert Harris of Elmira, NY. Also surviving are 15 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. Her parents, John Eastham and Florence Dollaway, brother Eugene Eastham and infant daughter Jeanne Lorraine Fitch predeceased her.

Mrs. Harris was best known as an Avon Representative.

Taylor, Howard A.

Age 73, of Corning, NY. passed away on Tuesday, February 17, 2009 at his home with his loving family by his side.

He was born on October 29, 1935 in South Bradford, NY to the late Barnett and Merle (Parsnow) Taylor. Howard enjoyed fishing and hunting.

He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Joyce (Burke) Taylor; his children, James (Kristy) Taylor of Odessa, NY, William (Wendy) Taylor of Rock Stream, NY and Steven (Beth) Taylor of Pine Valley, NY; seven grandchildren, Michael, Katherine, Rebecca, Matthew, Breeana, Amanda and Abigail; and two sisters, Caroline (Clyde) Allen of Corning, NY and Joyce Brown of Bath, NY, along with several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by special friends Florence (Pat) Hagadorn of Odessa, NY and Warren Osborne of Watkins Glen, NY.

The family will receive relatives and friends at the Vedder and Scott Funeral Home, 122 N. Genesee St., Montour Falls, NY on Saturday, February 21, 2009 between the hours of 1 PM and 3 PM. A memorial service for Howard will be held following calling hours. Interment will take place in South Bradford Cemetery at the convenience of the family.

Helen F. (Podleski) Urban

Age 85, of Hector, NY, passed away with her loving husband by her side on Friday, February 13, 2009.

Born in Blossburg, PA on Oct. 5, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Louise (Nowakowski) Podleski. She graduated from Blossburg High School and was employed by the Arnot Ogden Hospital and the Corning Glass Center.

She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Charles; her children, Patricia Giulino of Arlington, MA, Michael Urban of Albany, NY, and Gary and Judy Urban of Dryden, NY; grandchildren Jennifer (Giulino) and Jay Kelleher, and Erika (Giulino) and Scott Cannon; great-grandchildren Jordan and Braeden Cannon; and one grand dog, Dallas Urban.

She enjoyed outdoor life, particularly hunting and fishing with her husband and friends. She also enjoyed dancing, kicking up her heels doing the polka, playing cards, cooking, and spending time on Seneca Lake with her family and friends.

Denson, Michael E.

Age 38, of Morrell Road, Cayuta, NY, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Friday, February 13, 2009.

Michael is survived by his father, Burt C. Denson of Hammondsport, NY; brothers Burt Denson of Cayuta, NY and Daniel Denson of Owego, NY; nieces Rayelynn, Elizabeth and Samantha; a nephew, Connor, and several aunts, uncles and cousins. His mother, Carol S. Denson, predeceased him.

Michael was a former employee of Schuyler County and was an avid fisherman.

Age 85, of Cotton-Hanlon Road, Odessa, NY, passed away on Saturday, February 7, 2009 in the comfort of his home surrounded by his loving family.

He is survived by his wife, Beulah Johnson; children Rodney (Elaine) Johnson of Groton, NY, Randy Johnson of Montour Falls, NY, Dennis (Debra) Johnson of Greer, SC., Yvonne (Ted) Capogrossi of Ithaca, NY and Yvette Johnson Hartford of Horseheads, NY; grandchildren Rodney Johnson, Jr., Kimberly Johnson Ward, Kevin (Karen) Johnson, Christina (John) Johnson Tollanare, Nicholas Johnson, Joshua (Danielle) Kotmel, Jason Kotmel, Amber Capogrossi, Ben Hartford, Amanda Hartford & Joe Hartford; 11 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren. Children Shirley Thompson & Charles F. Johnson and grandson Wayne Johnson predeceased Charles.

Mr. Johnson was the owner and operator of Charles & Randy Auto Repair Shop in Ithaca, NY. He was a member of the Ithaca Moose Lodge.

Potter, Carolyn (Nee-Emery)

Age 56, of Corning, NY, passed away on Wednesday, January 21, 2009 at Corning Hospital.

She was the daughter of the late George and Dorothy Emery of Montour Falls. Her husband, Gerald Potter, also preceded her in death.

Mrs. Potter was a lifelong resident of Schuyler County, but most recently resided in the Day Springs Apartments in Corning, NY. Carolyn had a large extended family and was loved by many.

She is survived by her daughter, Christy White of Alpharetta, GA, and son, Andrew White, of Asheville, NC; and her grandchildren, Melinda Curtin, Mason White and Sebastian White. She is also survived by her brothers, John Coolbaugh, George Emery, Jr. and Eugene Emery, as well as by many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

A memorial service and celebration of Carolyn’s life will be held on Monday, January 26, 2009 at the Vedder and Scott Funeral Home, 122 N. Genesee St., Montour Falls, NY at 11 AM.

Watson, Daniel L.

Beloved husband, father and friend, Daniel L. Watson went to Jesus on Sunday, January 18, 2009 at the age of 56.

Dan was born on February 20, 1952 in Howard, NY. He attended high school in East Williamson, NY, graduated from Roberts Wesleyan College and earned his Masters Degree at Asbury Seminary in Wilmore, KY. He served the Free Methodist Church, was an insurance salesman, and most recently worked for the New York West Youth Soccer Association as office manager for 11 years.

His parents, Blanchard and Helen Watson, and son, Darrel, predeceased him. He will be greatly missed by friends and family; his wife Vikki; children Michelle (Matthew) Trost, Rebecca Watson and Phillip Watson; grandsons Isaac and Connor Trost; brother and sisters, Frances Watson, Terry Watson, Sandra Hammond, Nancy Gates and Mark Watson; as well as aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

Dan was a member of the Odessa Baptist Church, and served other congregations as needed, preaching the Gospel. He belonged to the Golf League at Watkins Glen Golf Course and was a soccer coach in Schuyler County for 16 years. He loved the kids on his teams and was proud of them. He also belonged to Lighthouse Christian Camp Association, a camp for families.

His treasure on earth was his wife, children and entire extended family.

Morgan, Doris J.

A loving Mother, Sister, Grandmother and Great Grandmother. Age 74, of Montour Falls, NY, formerly of Cayuta, NY, went to be with our Lord very unexpectedly on Saturday, January 17, 2009.

She is survived by Bill Morgan Sr. and her children, Deb (Ron) Reid, Cheryl (Pete) Tavish, Sue Morgan, Bill Morgan Jr. and Tom (Mary) Morgan; brothers Bill Wheeler and Dave Wheeler; a sister, Linda House; and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Doris was a retiree of Cornell Laundry, a member of Rebecca Lodge and a member of the Cayuta Free Church.

Doris was predeceased by her parents, Frank & Blanche Wheeler; a brother, Frank Wheeler, Jr., and a mother & father in law, Arnie and Eva Morgan.

Doris E. Stotenbur, of Sun City, Florida, died on November 4, 2008 at the age of 93.

Age 75, of County Route 19, Beaver Dams, NY passed away on Friday, December 19, 2008 at Schuyler Hospital, Montour Falls, NY.

Mr. Kibbe is survived by his wife of 50 years, Phyllis Bixby Kibbe; children James H. Kibbe of Odessa, NY, Debra (Mark) Rice of Montour Falls, NY and Scott A. Kibbe (Terry Dhuy) of Lockwood, NY; grandchildren Justin, Crystena, Shelby, Shawna and Char; a cousin, Clara Hall of Elmira, NY; and nieces Priscilla Six, Elmira, NY, Alice Truffa, Troy, Pa., and Mary (Charles) Deckle, Van Etten, NY.

Mr. Kibbe was a graduate of Southside High School, Class of 1952. He was a veteran of the Korean War and a member of the Elmira Heights American Legion Post #154. He was a former employee of the A&P Plant, Horseheads, NY and a retiree of Bethany Village, Horseheads, NY.

Mr. Alexander is survived by his wife Kathryn; children Bonnie & Merle Baker of Odessa, NY, Charles & Susie Alexander of Brandenburg, KY, and Verne & Virginia Alexander of Watkins Glen, NY; grandchildren Merle (BJ) III, Michael, Brenda, Stacey, Tracey, Jean, Joel and Jeanne; 12 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mr. Alexander retired from General Electric, Elmira, NY after 39 years of service and was a member of the Quarter Century Club.

Ray is survived by his mother, Helen Sutton of Montour Falls, NY; a son, Michael (Diane) Overhiser of Catlin, NY; daughters Ranay (Steve) Conroy of Montour Falls, NY and Tina (Darrin) Culligan of Burdett, NY; grandchildren Kymberlee Schoffner, Aaron Culligan, Chris Hammond, Brian Yontz and Jason Conroy; great grandchildren Brendyn, Kaila, Ashlyn, Mattie and Jacob; and brothers and sisters Clarence, Mildred, Cheri and Marie. A grandson, Josh, predeceased him.

Mr. Overhiser was a retired employee of Corning, Inc. and was a former Police Chief for Montour Falls, NY.

Eastman, Gladys E.

Age 101, of Alpine, NY entered in God’s care on Wednesday, December 10, 2008.

Her husband Clyde Eastman predeceased Mrs. Eastman. She is survived by her stepdaughter, Dorothy & Jim Crossett of Vestal, NY; a nephew, Ted (Charlene) Carmeron of Albuquerque, NM; and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
