History Walk with Gary Emerson, 10-11 a.m., sponsored by Friends of the Catharine Valley Trail. Meet at South Genesee Street Trailhead, Montour Falls.

July 28
Literary Reading, Storylines Bookstore & Cafe, 211 N. Franklin St., Watkins Glen, 7 p.m., by John Roche, a poet from Avon and an Associate Professor in the English department at RIT, where he teaches creative writing courses and advises the campus literary magazine. Sponsored by the Watkins Glen Writers Group. An Open Reading will follow.

July 28
Save Energy, Save Dollars, 6-8 p.m., Human Services Complex, Montour Falls, presented by Cooperative Extension. Explore ways to reduce utility bills through no-cost/low-cost energy actions. Free energy-saving kit worth $15 will be provided. Prior registration required by calling 535-7161.

Aug. 1-3
Annual Italian American Festival, Clute Park waterfront. Parade at noon on Saturday Aug. 2; Saturday night fireworks over Seneca Lake; car show and skate park competition on Sunday; bocce tournament all day Saturday and Sunday. Organizing committee is seeking parade floats.

Sept. 6
Out of the Darkness Community Walk in support of the American Foundation for Suicide revention, Riverfront Centennial Park, Corning. Proceeds will benefit local and national suicide prevention and awareness programs. Registration will be held at the park beginning at 8:30 a.m. The walk will begin at 10:15 a.m. To register, to donate or to learn more, log on to www.outofthedarkness.org

Sept. 14
Schuyler County Democratic Down-Home Family Picnic. Afternoon of family fun, food, music, enthusiasm, meeting old friends and making some new. Enjoy time in beautiful Hector and local fall bounty. Save the date. More info later.
