The Answers A column on education in Watkins GlenThe following was written by Travis Durfee, President of the Watkins Glen Faculty Association. It is the 14th in a continuing series of monthly columns. Kickball Classic a Success Last week, the Watkins Glen Faculty Association hosted the second annual WG Kickball Classic and Family Fun Night at the Field House in Watkins Glen. The event was an incredible success, in no small part thanks to the generosity of our community. Roughly 200 people attended the event to witness a hard-fought (and contentious!) kickball game between faculty members from the elementary and high school. The HS team won 7-6 and the elementary school team wants revenge, so we look forward to the third annual event next year! There were a variety of kids’ games, including a tug-of-war, Hungry, Hungry Hippos and pin ball. HS students helped organize the games for the younger students, and our school’s Art Club coordinated face painting and a craft station. Several community groups set up tables and shared information with attendees. Many thanks to SCCUDD, SAFE, Catholic Charities, and Public Health for bringing messages of wellness and support to our community. The game, an excuse for adults kids to have fun, also served as an opportunity to give back. Through the event, we raised money for the Ronald McDonald House Charities, which has helped many of our union members' families in their times of need. With the support of our generous sponsors and donors we matched last year’s fundraising effort and collected nearly $4,000 for RMHC. We thank our many generous donors: Seneca Lodge Thank you for taking part! We are humbled by the generosity of our community. Here’s to working with you again next year!
