Odessa-Montour's Brendan Letteer, after securing first place in the High Jump at 6'0", misses in an attempt to go higher. A day and night to remember T-burg boys, Lansing girls excel at inaugural O-M Invitational
"Great meet," said one. "Well run," said another. "Our kids won a lot of ribbons, so they're happy," added a third. The meet, under the eye of O-M track coaches Jack McCauley and Burton Brewster, began in daylight and ended under the lights of the field, with barely a hint of rain until the final race had been run. Then it rained briefly, and only mildly. Trumansburg's boys track team and Lansing's girls were the big winners, taking home the team championships, but those were built on many individual and relay-squad accomplishments. The achievement drawing the most buzz was the 3000 Meters run by Watkins Glen's Somer Pettet, in which she won the race in 11:08.7, an astonishing 20 seconds faster than the previous school record. "She didn't just beat the record," said Watkins Glen Coach Marie Fitzsimmons. "She smashed it." But there was more glory out there. The results, by race or field event, follow below. We're providing all winners plus placements by the three schools at the meet that are regularly covered by this website: Watkins Glen, Odessa-Montour and Trumansburg. Boys Events:
