Van A. Harp ... running for the Schuyler County Legislature, District
#2 In his first career, Mr. Harp served 33 years in the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in a variety of roles. The initial 11 years as a Special Agent were dedicated to investigating violations of all federal laws within the FBI’s jurisdiction with a focus on violent crime, public corruption, illegal drugs and white-collar crime.
As the Assistant Director of the Washington, D.C. Field Division, his service was extended an additional year beyond mandatory retirement due to responsibilities in the FBI’s response to the 9/11/01 attack on the Pentagon, the Anthrax investigation, and the Washington D.C. Sniper cases. In his second career, Mr. Harp served 10 years as Director of Corporate Security for Corning Incorporated. In this role he was responsible for all facets of Corporate Security globally including oversight of Security Personnel, Global Investigations, Executive Security, Security Technology and Physical Security. Additionally, Mr. Harp chaired the cross-functional Threat Assessment Team and was a Member of the Corporate Risk Council. Currently, Van Harp is a partner in Harp&Associates, LLC, a workplace violence prevention consultancy. The focus is awareness of, recognition, prevention, and response to violent workplace incidents in the workplace, both public and private. They have recently completed a 360-degree security assessment of a major school system in order to protect the school children and staff, who are among the most vulnerable citizens in our society. Van Harp’s 43 years of experience interacting with, interviewing, developing functional /productive relationships and following and leading many outstanding men and women has provided him with strong insight, sound judgment and problem-solving skills. Van is running for the Schuyler County Legislature, in the newly created District #2. Van is an INDEPENDENT, CONSERVATIVE and REPUBLICAN. Van is strong-minded, energetic, very fiscally conservative, and has spent his adult life protecting and serving the public. He understands the “Common Good” and believes public service is an honor and privilege. Van also understands the Constitution and took an oath to uphold the Constitution and ALL of its Amendments. The SAFE Act must be repealed, he says. To that end, repealing that Act will be a primary goal. Van and his wife Patty have been married well over 46 years and moved 11 times around this great Country in service to the public. They have four adult children and are expecting their thirteenth grandchild. Van and Patty have lived in Burdett, NY for almost 10 years and dearly want their children and grandchildren to freely enjoy this Country, New York, and Schuyler County to the extent the Founding Fathers intended under our Constitution.
