Watkins presents its Sports Awards

WATKINS GLEN, June 6 -- Outstanding Watkins Glen High School athletes were honored by the school and their coaches Tuesday night at the annual Sports Awards Night in the school auditorium.

The event was sponsored by the WG Sports Boosters Club, whose president, Lisa Palumbo, announced at the outset that the Coach of the Year was football's Lou Condon Jr. and that the Fan of the Year was Susan Larson.

Emcee (and WGHS principal) Dave Warren then announced winners of four awards, as follows:

TJ O'Rourke Award, given to a multi-sport senior: Taylor Chaffee.
Athletic Service Award, given to a senior who is helpful to the Athletic Department: Marissa Meehan.
Dr. Arthur J. Jackson Award, given to a male and female who are outstanding on the playing fields and in the classroom: Jessica Stansfield and Alec Moore.
The Joseph Lemak Award, given to seniors who excel in sports and academics: Jessica Brogdon and Dustin Cummings.

Coaches then took over, each outlining his or her team's season, and then announcing the winners of Sportsmanship, Improved and MVP awards. They were as follows:

Sportsmanship: Rebecca McIntyre.
