Watkins
Glen firefighters need your support (The following text was provided to this website by the Watkins Glen Fire Company. The photos lower on the page show some of the volunteers who serve the community through participation in the fire department.) The Watkins Glen Fire Company needs your support! We are raising funds for a new fire station with a goal of $150,000. As a member of the Watkins Glen community, we are asking for your assistance in achieving this goal. The Watkins Glen Fire Company began providing emergency services in 1862. Since that time, we have responded to thousands of emergency calls. This year alone, the department responded to well over 500 calls. The increase in demand for our services has left us requiring more space for vehicles, training, storage and other needs. Our current station is small, inadequate, and in need of a great deal of repairs. In order to meet the ever-growing needs of the community, the fire company and the village of Watkins Glen are building a new fire station that will provide an adequate building for many years to come. Our community is blessed with dedicated emergency personnel. There are currently more than 60 volunteer members that assist the Watkins Glen fire department with fire services, emergency, rescue and fire prevention. Two New York State fire instructors volunteer with the department; therefore numerous state trainings for the entire county are held within our department -- and with the limited space in our current station it makes it difficult to conduct these trainings. Literally thousands of hours have been spent in training in the last year alone. We are ready to take care of you, your family, and your friends -- and you can assist us. Please consider making a contribution to the new fire station. The members are happy to have raised $50,000 by holding various fund-raisers to put towards the building project. We are now asking you to help by making a contribution to the balance of the project. Every contribution will be acknowledged in the news and displayed in the lobby of the new fire station, and you will be invited to the opening ceremonies for the ribbon cutting. How can you help? Make a donation or send a donation in memory of someone. Supporting the Watkins Glen Fire Company is an investment in your community. That investment multiplied by others who donate has the power to bring about real changes. Cherish the memory of a friend or loved one, or show appreciation to a favorite friend or family member celebrating a birthday, anniversary, or special occasion through a gift in his or her honor. Matching donations. Many companies have programs which match charitable contributions by
their employees. Through corporate gift matching, employers can multiply
your gift to the Watkins Glen fire company. Ask your employer if you have
such a program where you work. $1 - $499: Honorable Mention $500 - $999: Bronze $1000 - $1499: Silver $1500 - $2500: Gold $2500 and above: Platinum Watkins Glen Fire Company
![]() WATKINS GLEN, Aug. 24 -- Twenty firefighters in the Watkins Glen Fire Department gathered last summer for a group photo, and afterward stepped one-by-one in front of the camera just as the sun was diving out of sight. The results are above, with the group in front of two fire vehicles in the parking lot of the Guthrie medical building, and below, as each firefighter stood in front of the driver-side door of the vehicle on the right above (with the exception of Floyd Hull, who was snapped several yards away).
